Item 6: Tiger Talk

This was to be completed as part of our first assignment. We needed to create a website on our favourite animal, and it needed to contain different sections of code: headers and footers, aside elements, at least 6 images, an animated GIF, this list goes on! I chose to make my website all about the tiger, my favourite animal, and something that has good, in-depth information about it.

Tigers traditionally live in nature, amoung lots of green plants, and water. Because of their beautiful orange fur (with the exception of the Bengal tiger who can have white fur), I chose to use a very simple colour scheme of green, orange, black and white. These four colours compliment each other beautifully, and make each other stand out from the page, which is what I wanted.
The actual body of the page is white, with a green footer, slightly lighter than the colour shown here, just so all the words could be visible, with orange buttons on the homepage (which stand out on the white), and green, dashed borders around all of my images. I have stuck to black and white text to keep it simple and easy to read, and my navigation is also black and white, over a photo of a tiger in the header.

My navigation bar is again horizontal, because I think it makes more sense that a vertical one down the side of the page. Also, it was the one that came with my CSS, and I really liked the way the hover worked. For the user experience, it is a simple and effective way to navigate, and I kept it the same on all the pages to keep consistent design.

The font I chose to use, Questrial, was already in my template, but I really really liked it. It was slightly more modern than the traditional likes of Times New Roman, but it was still very clear, and very easy to read.

Another design part of this website that I really liked was the border I chose. I chose to use a dashed border around my photos, partly because it made them look like stamps, and stand out from the page. I chose to do them in a deep-rich green, like the one shown above, and it definitely made the image stand out on the white background.

Overall, I didn't use a lot of colour in my actual page, because I had a lot of tiger photos bringing in those tones. I am very happy with the final look of my page - it is clean and modern, but it hasn't been overdone, and represents the tiger subject extremely well.
