Item 5: Downton Love, Downton Life
This is a webpage that was assigned to us for HTML and CSS practice. It was to be based on a hobby or interest, and include at least 100 words of your own. I chose my favourite TV series, Downton Abbey, and focused on background information, the era of the show (1910s and 1920s), the costuming over the show, and some of the main cast.
Because Downton Abbey is based in the early 20th century, I used quite a muted colour palette. Dark navy blue on the navigation bar as well as a light grey-blue for the body background, and deep gold for the photo frames and internal links. I really love the scheme that I chose, because it is simple and understated, yet perfectly reflects the period on which it was based. They also complement each other well, and make the white block with the dark navy text on it stand out.
I chose to use a horizontal navigation bar because it makes more logical sense to me: you read from left to right, so the same information is grouped in the way you will read it. It makes the website very easy to follow, and its a theme that is very easily able to be added on to it if wanted, and it also looks very clean.
I chose to use the Courier font, which is similar to the font of a typewriter which would have been very commonplace back in the early 20th century. It gives the website a nostalgic feel, and it is very clean and easy to read.
